CLUB NEWS and ANNOUNCEMENTS

THE JUNE ANNUAL MEETING, AWARDS CEREMONY, AND LUNCHEON WILL BE HELD ON MONDAY, JUNE 3 at 11 AM.

The Club's Annual Meeting and Luncheon,  hosted by Libbie and There Fiechter,  will be held on Monday, June 3  at 11 am at the home of Libbie and Sam Fiechter.  Enjoy a relaxing lunch in a beautiful setting where there will be plenty of time to chat with friends and explore Libbie's lovely garden and a special GCW plant sale.

A few notes regarding directions and parking from our hostesses: Please follow the signs to the barn garden area where the tent will be set up. Proceed straight at the intersection with the flagpole then bear right to park on the grass. Please leave those spaces closest to the barn garden for those for whom a longer walk might be difficult. You may also consider carpooling. The tent will be positioned so that there will be no steps to enter. GPS provides directions to the old driveway on Campbell Road. Please be sure to drive around the corner to the entrance at 1216 Owl's Nest Road, Wilmington, DE, 19807. Lastly, please don't drive to the old front door. All our festivities will be held on the other side of the house.

Don’t forget to wear your finest floral fancy. For tips on creating a floral fancy, please visit the  Floral Design landing page of the GCW website.   Please review the minutes from the May meeting and please RSVP to the Annual Meeting by Thursday, May 23.

PLEASE CONSIDER DONATING PLANTS FOR THE GCW ANNUAL MEETING PLANT SALE, ON MONDAY, JUNE 3.

If you are doing your spring gardening chores and you notice something that needs to be divided or has gotten too big, pot those plants up for the June Sale. No fancy pots necessary. We just ask that you label the plant and also put your name on it as a memento. Please contact Leslie Porter or Elaine Scott if you have plants to donate to our special sale. Houseplants, perennials, herbs, or vegetable garden plants are all welcome! Sharing something from your garden can be one of the most joyful and rewarding parts of the entire gardening experience.

SPRING COOKING - NETTLE PESTO

Nettles turn into luscious nourishment once the heat touches them. When they arrive in early spring, try to get them at their most prime, before they go to seed and get too rough and woody to enjoy. They like to grow in marshy wet places, alongside fields and swamps, near creeks and moist woodlands.

When harvesting nettles, wear gloves and long pants, bring scissors to snip off the tender top shoots and if you’re lucky you can go around for a second harvest. CLICK HERE for the recipe.
